History
Porus was the Greek god of Luxury and plenty.
He was the son of Zeus and Metis, the goddess of wisdom. Zeus lay with Metis and immediately feared the consequences. It had been prophesied that Metis would bear extremely powerful children: the first, Athena, the goddess of arts and wisdom and the second, a son, Porus, more powerful than Zeus himself, whom he would eventually overthrow.
Porus was also a real person, the King of Paurava, in the Punjab of modern day India. He chose to fight Alexander the Great in order to defend his kingdom. The battle is considered to be Alexander’s hardest fought battle, so hard that it cost the life of his son and caused his army to mutiny against him afterwards.
After barely defeating Porus, Alexander asked the king “How would you like to be treated?”
King Porus replied, “As befits a king.”
Alexander was so deeply moved by the brave and powerful response of King Porus that he released him back to his kingdom AND gave him the captured land of a neighboring kingdom whose ruler had fled, and allowed him to govern for the rest of his life.
Copia was the Roman goddess of abundance or plenty, resources, wealth and opportunity.
